Dan + Shay – "I Should Probably Go To Bed" (Behind the Scenes Series)

Roles: Video Editor
Project Type: Episodic Behind-the-Scenes Series
Client: Dan + Shay / Warner Music Nashville
Industry: Music / Entertainment

For this three-part behind-the-scenes series, I edited a deep-dive look into the making of Dan + Shay’s official music video for “I Should Probably Go To Bed.” My role as video editor involved crafting a clear, engaging narrative from hours of raw production footage, covering everything from early concept discussions to wire stunt work, 3D animation, and high-level music video direction. Each episode was condensed into an engaging 3-minute runtime, designed to keep fans invested while delivering insight into the complex process behind a high-end music video production.

Condensing Chaos into Clarity

A key challenge was shaping hours of scattered footage—spanning interviews, handheld BTS, set builds, green screen prep, and director commentary—into a focused, viewer-friendly narrative. My editing approach emphasized:

  • Narrative pacing to build momentum across episodes

  • Clip curation for clarity and emotional resonance

  • Rhythmic cutting to maintain energy and visual interest

  • Integration of b-roll, text graphics, and music beds for cohesion
